When it comes to physical entity evolvement, we are of two minds: The Primary Identity can be genetically altered to enable it to withstand alien environs by focusing on breathing mechanisms, skin and internal organ composition and sensory additions. This allows the original mind to experience long-term off-earth explorations in case of catastrophic exo-skeleton failure. Optionally, a Secondary Identity (clone) is manufactured to meet all rigorous requirements for other world ventures without the need for costly "space suits". The drawback here, of course, is that the Primary Identity would have limited sensory involvement in the experience.
